About Us

Since 1982, the Red Door Family Shelter has provided emergency shelter and support for women and children affected by domestic abuse, families experiencing a housing crisis, and refugee claimants with nowhere else to turn.

Breaking the Cycle of Homelessness

Red Door Family Shelter is a non-profit registered charity operating two shelters in Toronto – a family shelter for families in crisis with nowhere else to turn and a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) shelter for moms who have bravely fled abuse to keep their kids safe. Our vision is to end family homelessness one family at a time, and we are passionate about providing programs and services for our clients that enable them to build positive, sustainable futures.

Our basic operational funding — which gives families in need a roof over their heads and somewhere to sleep — is provided by the City of Toronto and the Province of Ontario. The generous support of our community, in the form of donations and fundraisers, enables us to be more than just a bed and do more for our residents by offering them the tools they need to build brighter futures.
