Next online Volunteer Information Session: Summer 2024. Sessions are 30 minutes and begin at 12 noon.
VOLUNTEERS AT THE RED DOOR
Volunteers are an important part of the Red Door team. Your contribution as a volunteer allows us to provide the best service and support to our families.
Volunteers provide support to many of our programs and services, including:
- Children's Programs
- Homework Club
- Food Bank
- Donation Room
- Workshop Facilitation
- Special Events*
*Volunteers at events must be 18 years of age or older unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. The minimum age for shelter volunteers is 15 years.
Note: Homework Club, 4-5 pm, once per week, is an ideal highschool volunteer placement for Grade 11 students. One year of weekly service, September - June will satisfy the 40-hour community service requirement.
VOLUNTEER APPLICATION PROCESS
Here is our individual volunteer application process:
- Complete a volunteer application with your references and we will invite you to attend our next online Volunteer Information Session via MS Teams.
- Attend an interview to determine if our current volunteer openings match your interests and availability.
- Attend an orientation session with other new volunteers.
- Submit a vulnerable sector criminal background check.
If no suitable position is available, your application will be kept on file for a period of 6 months and will be considered for future volunteer openings. Please note, most of our volunteer positions are on weekdays or weeknights, other than special events. Steps 3&4 may not be required for event volunteering.
If any questions, email us at volunteer@reddoorshelter.ca.
